For 33 years, art lovers have flocked to the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria’s annual TD Art Gallery Paint-In, held the third Saturday of July along Moss Street in Victoria. Pandemic safety measures have forced the cancellation of this year’s event, but organizers have found a new way to promote artists in our region.
Paint-In sponsors TD Bank Group and the AGGV have launched the first ever Artists’ Guide, a new on-line guide featuring artists from Vancouver Island who can normally be found lining Moss Street.
The guide will be available at aggv.ca/td-artist-guide-paint-in-2020/ beginning Saturday, July 18.
“The TD Art Gallery Paint-In is a celebration of Vancouver Island art and artists,” says AGGV director Jon Tupper. “This year, we are unable to bring the community to artists on Moss Street; we will instead be bringing the artists to the community — virtually. It is our hope that members of the community take this opportunity to reach out and purchase art from the artists who depend on the TD Art Gallery Paint-In sales for their livelihood.”
The TD Art Gallery Paint-In also serves as the Gallery’s largest annual community fundraiser. “Without this event, the Gallery is faced with the loss of donations and other revenue that it depends on to support programming throughout the year. Funds from the TD Art Gallery Paint-In support our ongoing educational programs and creative experiences for people of all ages,” adds Tupper.
On Saturday, July 18, the Art Gallery will also run their Annual Open House by donation from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Visitors can browse current work on display, Highlights from the AGGV Collection, which includes Canadian historical and contemporary art and new acquisitions in Asian art.
