Dance Victoria’ brings a taste of Seoul for its season ender.

Bereishit Dance Company from South Korea will close Dance Victoria’s 2020/21 Virtual Home Season with a double program from April 8 through to April 11, 2021 on DanceVictoria.com.

Bereishit (which means “new beginning” and pronounced BRESH-it) Dance Company has toured internationally. Their virtual program with Dance Victoria showcases choreographer and artistic director Soon-ho Park’s complex choreography which is inspired by hip hop and judo.

Park’s choreography has been praised for its perfect blend of music and dance, and for transcending the East and the West, tradition and contemporary, dance and martial arts

Bow_Control, a demanding male duet inspired by the tradition of archery, softens the boundaries of sport and dance. The bow and arrow represent states of tension and relaxation, expressing will and determination, of struggles with one’s alter ego.

Balance and Imbalance features an engaging exchange among five contemporary dancers, a pair of Korean traditional drummers, and one traditional pansori (musical storytelling) singer. Together the performers convey the metaphor of human relationships continuously orbiting around the wheel of opposition and harmony.

Ticket holders enjoy a password-protected HD video presentation available from Thursday, April 8 at 5 pm until Sunday, April 11 at 10 pm.Online extras include a pre-recorded video conversation with Artistic Director/Choreographer Soon-ho Park and Jacob Pillow’s Scholar-in-Residence Maura Keefe, detailed program notes with complete casting, a signature cocktail demonstration with Cascadia Liquor, and more – all accessible from DanceVictoria.com.
