Next time you’re in downtown Victoria, be sure to visit the Victoria Public Market at the Hudson, located in the iconic Hudson’s Bay building. The Market, which celebrated its one-year anniversary in October, highlights local food producers at all levels – farmers, fishers, butchers, bakers, cheese-makers, preservers, brewers, vintners, florists and restaurateurs. Along with the permanent vendors, every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday see the Farmer’s Market setting up in the main space. When the Market is closed, the interior is easily transformed into a private function event space.

The interior design of the space is locally inspired and looks to help people feel connected to their environment.

“Although there is an underlining cohesiveness through certain design standards, the goal was not to control the outcome, but instead, create a unified backdrop from which ‘market chaos’ could spring and evolve over time, yet appear as if it has been in place for decades,” says Krista Rossato, principal designer at id8 Design, who was part of the design team for the Market.
