Bold graphic details, the exuberant use of colour and a modern and mid-century mix of furnishings transform this contemporary home into a tailored interior that is casual, friendly and energetic — the perfect reflection of the homeowners’ unique style.

The wallpaper and rug in the entry introduce the colour scheme to be carried through the home. A custom walnut shoe cabinet (designed by Kyla Bidgood and built by Ian Erdmann of Woodshop 506) fits the narrow entry perfectly. Tear drop coat hooks, also by Ian Erdmann, are a usable art installation.

When designer Kyla Bidgood was approached to help inject some style into a new home, she was thrilled the owners weren’t afraid of colour. She calls the project — where the wish-list called for a vibrant and modern space with a little quirkiness — a true client-designer match made in heaven. “My goal for this project was to translate the homeowners’ personalities in the space and create a home that expresses their interests and colourful lifestyle,” Bidgood says. Using the open, modern layout with its stunning wall of windows as her canvas, Bidgood incorporated analogous shades of turquoise, navy and cobalt blue throughout the home to tell a unifying colour story. By mixing family heirlooms with immaculately built custom pieces and design-forward furniture, she infused this modern space with character. And setting the stage for the entire house is the bold wallpaper and rug in the entry, welcoming you into the home of some obviously fun-loving, creative people.
